Her smile was as vicious as the slaughter of hatchlings at morn.

But her dragon knights didn’t care. Their queen was the most ruthless of them all, having slain ten enemy soldiers in the days of the Purge. As long as her sword never fell on their heads, for what should they worry?

The queen was really the deadliest weapon best kept close at hand — all the better to be controlled.

Did she know she was simply a puppet? Did she resent this role she inherited?

Oh, she did not care a whit as long as there was ample bloodshed.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
