The angel had seen many cities fall across his immortal existence.

This city was no different. Flames overtook the horizon and painted the sky with an eerie glow. Somewhere out there, people were dying in jolts and gasps.

The angel closed his eyes to the sight.

His sovereign had promised that peace would one day wash over the world of humans — but the angel was beginning to lose hope.

How many more children would he have to see perish underneath the weight of humans’ poor choices?

Someone had to intervene.

Perhaps he should raise his sword for a new cause.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
