The Bruises You Left Behind
100 Faces in 100 Stories — No11

I could have saved you. I had the means, the way, the weapon.
One word, and all your chains would have dissolved.
You would have been free to face another hero, another enemy.
I would have gone on to live the life of a disgraced daughter.
My father would have made sure I never saw the light of day again.
My mother would have cried tears that turned into oceans.
And you? You would have left your marks on other foolish girls — but they wouldn’t have been able to fight back.
So what did I do?
I watched you burn.
