There’s a certain kind of girl men seem to gravitate towards as if she is a force like gravity or the moon or even the sun in the middle of a solar system.

I watch the men watch her. I know I can never be her, no matter what clothes I buy or what perfume I spritz along my wrists. She is all unnerving confidence and unwavering spirit in the way she moves about a room.

When she leans in for a whisper, her lips curve with the knowledge that the other person may be dizzy with the temptation of a kiss. It doesn’t matter if the other person is a guy or girl; either way, the effect will ripple through anyone whose glance happens to stray toward them in the ensuing moments.

You may say, “Aren’t you exaggerating a bit?” — and you may be correct. I’ve just seen the same old song-and-dance in bars and restaurants that I’m sure the story repeats the world over, no matter the locale in question.

The truth is that I do envy the girl who has such power at her fingertips. To her, attention has never been an issue. Perhaps her parents doted on her as she grew up, or maybe her high school boyfriend made her feel like the center of the universe. No matter the background, she gives off the vibe that she has wanted for nothing in a world that has attempted to…
