That Fairy Tale Ending Eludes Us
A Poem
you painted a picture across my skies
of a world where we stood against everyone,
no matter if it was by sword or slander
(the sky was wide open,
a pasture for our senses,
each kiss like a secret
while we spoke in riddles)
wanting meant nothing in the scheme
of a universe that would rebuke us
and steal away gold in the face of sorrow
(sorrow doesn’t suit us,
not in its grays or blues,
and every hue reminds
of a time not our own)
they tell us to pray each night,
and candlelight makes us glow
as behind us brew more shadows
(my shadow and yours join
only in scattered moments,
stolen yet blissful seconds,
the hourglass never stopping)
dreaming is an escape we devise
because happily ever after comes slow
in a life full of broken promises
