100 Faces in 100 Stories — No45

--

I was only a child when I met Violet. Her golden hair fell in ringlets, and her eyes were the color of a pale blue sky.

We always played in the garden before my lessons with my governess. Violet liked having tea parties. I liked pretending I was a pirate or a knight who could save her from every threat.

One day, Mother asked me why I went out to the garden every day. I said I was meeting my best friend.

She gave me an odd look. “But I’ve never seen anyone out there with you.”

Then I knew.
