Sunburst Valentine

A Poem

She’s a neon flare-up of every emotion,
Too much of a combustion to be contained,
And she doesn’t relish a spotlight not built
By her own two hands (and, oh, that pretty face).

She’s that sunburst valentine every boy craves,
That picture perfect ideal ready for a pedestal,
But she leaves all those hearts breaking —
A trail of fireworks scattered in her wake.

She’s fire and water in a perfect concoction —
At least at a glance, a glimpse, a glimmer —
But look past that pool’s peaceful surface
And see what lurks beneath in her depths.

She’s wearing the flutter and blossom of life,
And you know she’s going to be an inferno —
All the ready to consume you, ravish you,
Take every little spark and make a storm.

She’s not your everyday girl, maybe,
But you might be surprised if you look around —
And realize there’s more to every story,
Hidden truths behind the faces you see.

She’s not your dream and fantasy twined
Just for you, just for you, just for you —
So take those eyes and look elsewhere —
Give a girl some respect, if you please.
