“Good girl,” he breathed softly, continuing where they had left off by tugging at her hair. She gasped out slightly, and he smiled before letting go.

“Sorry,” he breathed out. “Just teasing you.”

Then he pressed closer until they were chest to chest, his fingertips idly tracing the back of her neck.

“Do you believe in soul mates?” he whispered.

“I don’t know,” she answered honestly, and he shook his head.

“Funny. I would have said the same thing a few years ago — but now I don’t know. I don’t know — when I look at you, when I look at you.”

Then he hummed, letting out a string of notes that were off-key, and she smiled.

“Stop,” she said.

“What?”

“Stop playing a part,” she said. “Be real with me.”

“All right,” he said. “Have it your way.”

Then he leaned in, capturing her lips against his in a hungry kiss. Their tongues clashed against each other for one brief moment before they melded then retreated again.

“Fuck, babe,” he said. “Fuck.”

Then he smiled, knocking his forehead against hers. “You don’t know what you do to me.”

“Likewise,” she said, smiling too.

“So — about that soul mate thing…”

“Yeah?”

“Want to figure it out together?”

“I’d like that.”

“Good,” he breathed.

Then they continued to kiss, languid in their movements, ever caught up in each other’s careful flame.
