The cream-colored background accentuated the contrast of shadows playing about her face. Every angle brought out more dimension, and he loved catching her off-guard in those moments before a smile bloomed on her lips. These spare seconds were what he craved when the old 9-to-5 clawed at his soul.

“You’re not going to make any money off these,” she demurred, laughing again, as he winked at her before the shutter clicked again.

“Side hustles are play money anyway,” he said. He inched closer and slid his fingertips under her chin. “Move this way for me, will you? I want to get your good side.”

“I thought you said I had no bad sides,” she quipped, and he caught her mid-sentence, white teeth flashing like a secret peeking out in the open. He couldn’t help himself as he withdrew the camera and caught her lips against his.

“Without the bad sides, there’s no depth,” he said against her mouth, and he could feel the tension of the scene at play. If he just put down the camera, they would memorize each other again, fingertips to skin and clothing to the floor, just like they’d done dozens of times, meeting and parting and reuniting since their time at college. Even now, they were more will-they-won’t-they with the word couple like something…
