Shot in the Dark

A Poem

i’m thinking of you
and that downward trend
when you were everything
and i was nothing but a mistake.

i’m thinking of us
and all the lies we told
when we said nothing happened
but the words spoke for themselves.

and i’ve got a shot in the dark —
one last chance, one last ruse
to make you mine and true —
but we already ended, didn’t we?

i’m thinking of you
on late nights like these
when everything feels like too much
and nothing feels as if it’s a chokehold.

i’m thinking of us
and all the truth we spilled
when nothing seemed okay at all
but we couldn’t help telling our tales.

and i’ve got a shot in the dark —
one last fight, one last miss
to make things right again —
but we already had it all, didn’t we?

i’m thinking of you
over and over and over
as if there’s no future at all
since you’ll never…
