Say My Name

A Poem

you draw me close
while another night fades,
sunlight replacing starlight
and the moon crossing the river
of the sky’s tranquil expanse

but we do not fool ourselves —
there are wars of emotion out there
beyond this bedroom we share,
a sanctuary we made on our own —
and we seek comfort in each other

tomorrow is no guarantee —
shh, shh, don’t shed your tears,
I’m still here with you —
yet we’ll bide our time here
and protect this safe space

say my name in the dark,
and I’ll find you every time —
the path I’ll always follow,
the guiding star at midnight,
the north of my heart’s compass

yesterday is gone, my love,
and with it those easy hours —
those times we took for granted —
but we’ll rebuild, won’t we,
whatever breaks under the strain
