A Poem

oh, you’ve got me hanging by a thread —

every page of thoughts I could have read —

and I’m thinking it’s going to be a long time

with that smile of yours stealing like a crime.

*

oh, your voice climbs from the terrace high

and I’m just painting rainbows in the sky,

hoping you’ll find one and know too well

that I’ve got a secret I’ve been keen to tell.

*

oh, I think you’ve got a lock on me now

as if you’re trying to get me to keep a vow,

and the moon listens as I speak the words

ready to fly off into yonder like uncaged birds.

*

oh, don’t be telling your white lies

that see the sun set and the sun rise

because I know you’re quaking some

as our hearts race in a united thrum.

*

oh, Sarah, don’t be a stranger tonight

just as we’re reaching such a great height,

because you’re breaking my heart in two

and that won’t be fixed by any old glue.
