A Poem

tell me what it’s like
to have a mind that doesn’t
wander or
chatter or
linger on
useless thoughts
as if there’s some method
to this kind of madness.

can you spare a penny
for me to fill the wishing well
with hope
and humor
and honesty
rather than
so much dread, enough to fill
a thousand shattered kingdoms?

or are you broken too,
just hanging by a thread,
until someone
reaches out
and tethers
you close,
just enough to matter
and make all the difference?

we couldn’t speak of sanctity
within walls like these,
painted white
and bleeding
with mania
past dusk,
that quicksand haze
with no room for escape.
