paint me in sunlight, darling,
in the ways you like me best
before the storm clouds darken
and try to push you away from me.

love wasn’t meant to be a drug,
but we’re still riding the high.

our sacred new religion —
oh, it’s the way you touch my lips
and stare at me as if i’m the only thing
keeping you from going out of orbit entirely.

kiss me slow and sweet, darling,
in that special way you know i like
until we’re dizzy from the quiet frenzy
pulsing between us, heartbeat to heartbeat.

love wasn’t supposed to cause a crash,
but here we are in the wreckage.

our sacred new religion —
oh, it’s how you say my name so soft
as if i never knew the word to call myself
before you whispered it and made it spark alive.

dance with me in shadows, darling,
till the sunrise craves us and pulls us
from the edge of this swirling madness
we’ve made between the hum of our bodies.
