The city was a sea of smoke and fire.

Addie ran through the streets, trying to find a path through the scattered barricades. She let out a cry of frustration when she was met with another dead end. It was like a labyrinth torn straight out of hell.

The smoke burned her eyes, and she called out for help from anyone who would hear.

But she found no one. It was as if she were the only one left alive.

“Help me,” she tried to choke out.

Was it a war? Or the apocalypse?

She just wanted to stay alive.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
