Roots and Ruin
#100StoryChallenge — No51
The queen of the forest became another relic of the past.
Though the goblins fed her fruit and the nymphs tried to cast their spells, the queen’s limbs settled into roots piercing the earth. Her hair became brittle leaves that snagged on the morning breeze. Even her beautiful mouth, which had once helped seduce poor mortal men, transformed into just another notch in the tree she was becoming.
Her tears were streams of sap, and there was no cure.
Something in the forest died that day she stopped breathing as nature’s queen.
For her, there would be no more tomorrow’s.
