Revenge and Revelry

100 Faces in 100 Stories — No67

--

The duke wouldn’t go down without a fight, but I had my silver stiletto blade hidden in the belt of my dress. I knew to be prepared, especially if his hands started wandering.

Isabella said I was being absurd. “Just poison his wine,” she said, hitting her fan against her palm. “Simple and no mess.”

“I want him to feel it.”

My sister rolled her eyes. “Do as you wish, Caterina. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

It may as well have been a premonition.

How was I to know the reviled duke would be handsome?

True madness, that.
