A Poem

it’s high time we ditch this scene —
the place of so many heartbreaks
reflected off broken glass in the sand

but you want to stay, don’t you,
just to say you could do it,
anything to prove me wrong

take the time, love, and see
just what makes our hearts tick
in this scattered rhythm of a pulse

it’s time to say goodbye, isn’t it,
in this sorry little world above
that’s made hell look like paradise

but you still stare at me,
and I know I’m losing you —
if only I could turn back the clock

take it slow, they said,
because he’ll be a heartbreaker,
and of course they knew better

it’s the last call for drinks,
and you’re lost in thought —
spheres away from me

and so I say the words,
those phrases I locked away
because I couldn’t handle the truth
