A Poem

it’s pouring outside
on this dark night of the soul
while I’m wondering if I lost sight
for letting go of you when I had the chance.

the downpour
cascades in rivulets and turns,
blissful moments revealing their torment,
hidden in the shadows, now come to light.

and I wonder
if you happen to be lost too
or if I’m just waiting on useless cues
to tell me you still care what happens to me.

it’s a storm, oh,
that reminds me of your bluster
from all those wayward days you wandered
just for trying to find your way in this vigilante life.

the thunder crashes
like pounding knocks at the door
to my useless, useless heart that’s still yours
even after all these days we’ve spent so far apart.

and I wonder
if I’m just slowly losing my mind
while telling myself I made the right decision
for giving you up right when the going got rough.
