The gods mattered little to us, but I still looked to the sky when it blackened with storm clouds and traces of lightning.

“Be wary,” one of the Norn sisters had told me. “The final hour will come when you least expect it.”

But what did we have to fear? Yggdrasil would survive the torment of losing its godheads. The World Tree was made of stronger magic than even what powered the veins of mythic beings like Odin and Thor.

But the grass began to wilt under my feet.

Thunder roared, and my vision blurred.

The end did come swift.
