Persephone’s Sister

100 Faces in 100 Stories — No94

--

You’ve never heard of me, have you? I was always the forgotten one.

Demeter had eyes only for my older sister who could make flowers bloom just by looking at them. It didn’t even matter when my sister bore the disgrace of the underworld: my mother cast the earth into an eternal winter just to reclaim her.

Me? I was a glimpse of shadow, a taste of regret, a child born from sorrow.

How could I ever earn my mother’s love when I was a reminder of her greatest shame?

I was not a full goddess.

I was part mortal.
