The gods had angered Demeter’s daughter one too many times. Going to the palace of Hades became her one act of rebellion to use as leverage against the rest of her kin.

Persephone hadn’t thought the final trade-off would be her freedom to come and go as she pleased. Six months of spring in the world above, six of winter in the dregs of the underworld.

It was not the life the goddess had planned for herself.

Perhaps being under her mother’s thumb hadn’t been as much a curse as she had thought.

It was time to rise again.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
