Performance Art Revisited

A Poem

see what’s beyond the looking glass —
that’s what you want to know, isn’t it?

but the answer’s not there
because the performance is not done —

and the actors all have their places,
all in a row of happenstance
from the here and now
(even as the beyond quakes).

the performance art has its place
as the players all take to their seats —
little realizing the audience is in on the game,
little realizing the whole wide world was the target.

art is meant to be evocative,
art is meant to be innovative,
art is meant to change things
and i think we’ve forgotten.

see what’s beyond the looking glass, won’t you —
even as pieces of me die inside, one by one,

waiting on a kind regard
i fear may not be for me anymore

(if it ever was for me
at all)

(if it ever was for me
at all).
