hey, honey, you’ve got big dreams
like stars in your eyes — blooming fast
yet always bursting through

hey, honey, you’ve heard the call
and you’re packing up your bags
on that last flight home tonight

hey, honey, you don’t ever speak
‘bout that name of yours,
so sweet on the tongue

hey, honey, we’ve gone this mile
and now we both know for sure
we’re never backing down

hey, honey, heard you crying
through that bedroom door
and now I just see blue

hey, honey, they called you Pen
but I knew you were more than ink
from that story you were writing

hey, honey, don’t back down;
it may be tough out there,
but you’ve got living to do

hey, honey, wish you were here
instead of on that old town road
with all its dead-end lanes

hey, honey, you said goodbye,
and I’m still hurting like a bruise —
but it doesn’t matter now
