Painted Love

A Poem

painted love,
the colors swirling
in blues and reds
down the drain
only to drip in purple
like the bruise you left

painted love,
all these rainbows
you left behind
to take your place
when i was lonely
under gray skies

painted love,
the green of you
meeting my orange —
the quirk of sunrise
basking over trees —
oh, we should have been

perfect

this painted love

it should have been perfect

painted love,
mixtures so heady
like fizzy drinks
we shared at the diner
just past midnight
when no one else cared

painted love,
ours to own
but never to keep —
we weren’t meant for
forever, oh no,
and we should have known
