You think I’m going to write about the epidemic of incels. No, I’m not. I understand that they’re perceived as threats. I understand that many young men have succumbed to committing crimes against women in their lives: their mothers, their girlfriends, their daughters, their wives. I understand there’s a problem. I understand it’s serious and heavy, and no one will ever have answers overnight.

But you know what? I think these young men deserve sympathy and kindness instead of hatred and belittlement.

Lots of think pieces have gone over the statistics. Opinion articles and commentary have pored over the gritty details of how young men have been driven to everything from hate crimes to self-harm to mass shootings — all because of deep insecurities that have seemingly manifested as potent demons — but there’s always one thing missing: a solution.

Yeah, it’s great that you can tell me how these young men are damaged. But are you willing to put the time and effort into fixing the problem? Where are the mental health resources for these young men? Where are the therapists and counselors to rally behind them and help them find the support networks they desperately need to thrive?
