A Poem

hello, stranger, welcome to the main show:
did you think you’d get away so easy?
we’ve got hours and hours
while time stands still
and lets us know
we’re so close
to annihilation

say something, if you want,
since we’ve got the seconds
building up to minutes
which will tailspin
into time well-spent
while you linger
on your luxuries

oh, did you think this was
the end of the world?
we’re not there yet —
not quite —
but close enough
to kiss,
you know?

I can talk all day
and fill your head
with lie upon lie —
but I won’t do that
because I like you
and I don’t want
a senseless doll

don’t say goodbye, darling,
because it’s far too soon
and we’ve still got
a plague or two
before we touch
the apocalypse…
