Oh, Show Me Those Cruel Eyes

A Poem

fire meets fire,
and we’re all going to burn —
if not today, then tomorrow

every little word of yours
is like a hit to the chest
where I fall
but never break

enough about me —
what about you?

oh, show me
those cruel eyes

and then kiss me
with all those lies
on your tongue

ice meets ice,
and you freeze me out
because that’s all you ever knew

every touch of yours
leaves me reeling,
falling under pressure,
till I begin to crack in pieces

but enough about you —
how about me?

oh, show me
those cruel eyes

and I’ll try to give you
every single excuse
for your deceptions

ashes to ashes —
and we’re right back
where we started long ago
