They called her the Lady of the Marshes.
In another age, she might have been revered as a goddess or a wayward witch. But today she was just an urban legend with far too many roots in the minds of people in the nearby town.
“Never go out when it’s foggy.”
“She’s waiting out there in the mist.”
“There have been disappearances.”
Everyone passing through town shrugged off the warnings. A few even laughed.
Some traveled at night just fine, their car headlights cutting through the haze.
But others —
Well.
There were some who never had a chance to leave.
This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
