Midas’s lover had no name in the legends.

But I will tell you her story now. She was in love with a man who had always thought he was too good for this world.

Midas entreated the gods to grant him the power to turn everything to gold — and of course they gifted him because he was a man of virtue and prestige.

Or he had once been.

But he didn’t think of his power as he handled his beautiful lover that first night. Her open mouth was a scream as she slowly began to turn into gold before him.

Welcome to my tribute for the 3-year anniversary of Taylor Swift’s album Evermore. This is an ode to “coney island,” the ninth song of the album.
