Her best friend Dorothea sat in the booth at the old diner.

“You’re too beautiful to waste away like this,” she said as Emma wiped at her running mascara.

“What can I do? I love him.”

“Don’t stay with him if you’re going to destroy yourself.”

And Dorothea? She had a penchant for being right.

Her other friends would shush her, perhaps, but Dorothea was a straight shot. No one else could compare. Even when other friendships faded, hers was the silver lining in the storm cloud.

“What did I do to deserve you?” Emma asked.

Dorothea smiled. “Nothing, silly.”

Welcome to my tribute for the 3-year anniversary of Taylor Swift’s album Evermore. This is an ode to “dorothea,” the eighth song of the album.
