Ode to Cathy
Life Was a Willow and More — #7
Heathcliff had always known Cathy had the fire of a phoenix within her. Maybe that was why he had loved her so — why he had craved her even in their years apart, even as life sought to drive them as enemies on opposing sides of class warfare.
But phoenixes had a way of becoming ghosts. Ashes were their birthplace, embers their sustenance, and the flames were their rebirth.
He had no choice but to watch as Cathy drove herself to her own demise.
But he would join her in time. He too had a phoenix lying in wait inside him.
