Henrietta, a barmaid, knew men like the cowboy weren’t meant to be tamed. But, eager for a tip by the end of the night, she still threw smiles his way and made sure his glass of ale was always full.

When she leaned forward to flash her cleavage at him, he looked at her with distaste. “You don’t need to do that,” he said. “I’ll pay my fair share.”

But she fluttered her eyes at him. “All the men say that,” she replied.

He just looked at her with sadness in his eyes. “A shame, that.”

Kindred spirits, they were.
