A Poem

whoever led you to believe
you’re just a primrose —
i’m sorry to say,
they lied to you

whoever led you to think
you’re nothing —
i’m sorry to say,
there’s more to life than this

you’re not a star
wavering on some highborn lot —
but you’re someone special
in your own right,

a dazzling,
unique you

why did you let anyone
rob you of that?

why did you let anyone
tell you that you were lesser?

shake off that grimness,
shake off the uncertainty,
give life the fashion of a glow —
you can do this better than most

you have the heart —
i’ve seen it, i’ve seen it —
and you have the call
to make it through this trial

you can
if only you
believe
