Fairy tales were made to be broken.

That was how Isabella felt after being understudy to Cinderella for all her life.

She didn’t even have a starring role! Why couldn’t she have at least been a stepsister? Or a fairy godmother?

Instead, she sat on the sidelines, waiting for Cinderella to make a mistake. It wasn’t likely, but it could happen.

Fear was the enemy of every fairy tale protagonist. There was a reason why so many mentor types warned against it.

A happy ending? Isabella longed for one — but she would have to scheme her way to get one.

This is my third take on the 100 Story Challenge! Lyrics define these stories, and this piece‘s title was inspired by “1,000 Things” from Sarah Jarosz.
