Midas Is King
100 Lyrics into Stories — No59
The armies of Midas waited for him to make a decision.
The gods too waited in their pantheons.
But the one who waited above all else was the girl he had enchanted to be gold under all array of sunlight.
“You are lovely,” he told her, “but I know many who are far lovelier.”
“Do you?” she asked.
He nodded.
The bastard.
But it didn’t matter. Her golden skin was telling of what she had once meant to him.
Someday she would understand why he had chosen to turn her of all people into a living prize.
Just not today.
This is my third take on the 100 Story Challenge! Lyrics define these stories, and this piece‘s title was inspired by “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)” from Florence + the Machine.
