A Poem

how do you say the words i need to hear
when the going gets tough —
and all i need is a little peace and resolution

(something to drown out the noise)

and how do you speak to me
when you’re there and i’m here —

and how do the words bleed
when i expect nothing else

but just a sudden despair of a moment
caught in a flagrant being of something
like knowing, like missing, like unbecoming

how, how, how

do you make the words come and rise and stand

how, how, how

do you know what makes me believe in something like
a happy ending made real, a truth made manifest

how, how, how

do you get to the heart of me

i wish i knew the answer
even as you’re a mystery behind glass

i wish i knew the answer
even as you’re someone i could never picture

in a thousand lifetimes, i think,
even as parts of me bleed towards you
and tell me that you’re something new

in the darkness of a moment,
in the sunrise of another day,
in the climate of something

that may make us question anything
we’ve ever known
