Maybe That’s When They’ll Love Me

“You have to realize we can’t accept these grades,” the academic advisor said. “You have to apply yourself if you want to get ahead.”
Tai ran his hands through his hair. “Is there anything my dad can do?” he asked, his voice soft.
The advisor — someone who was on her way to retirement from the college — hesitated. Then she said, “I’ll make a call.”
Tai closed his eyes, knowing he was in for another lecture when he got home. But what could he do?
Music wasn’t working out. Neither was school.
Buying his way in had to be the way.
This is my third take on the 100 Story Challenge! Lyrics define these stories, and this piece‘s title was inspired by “House on a Hill” from Eric Nam.
