I never thought someone’s face could make me question the workings of the universe, but his does.

When I meet him over the VR link, he’s like a glitch that can’t be real. His hair swoops down over his forehead effortlessly, and those blue eyes spark something in me, a long dormant feeling like my stomach dropping during an old-time rollercoaster ride. I can’t stop staring at him, as if turning my attention elsewhere will make him fade away.

I can’t help the smirk on my mouth. “Okay, show me what you really look like.”

The guy laughs as if my words are some inside joke we’ve cultivated over years and years. “What? You don’t think you can handle someone like me?”

“I didn’t say that.”

“Then what if I tell you that you get what you pay for?”

“I’m not in the market to buy fiction,” I say.

“Then you’re missing out,” he says, still too perfect to be believed as he stretches his arms over his head. The thin strip of skin revealed makes my eyes linger a little too long, but I keep my mind on the business at hand. “Take it or leave it, babe.”

“Do you do outings?” I ask.

He laughs again, this time as if I’m too impossible to believe. “What, like you pay me to be…
