Loving You, Losing You

A Poem

i could have moved the earth
with the quake of my heart
whenever you drew near

i could have stormed the skies
with the downpour of my soul
whenever you left me behind

maybe i was too much,
and maybe we weren’t meant
to last forever

but

i could have made supernovas
out of the passion i held
for you, just you

i could have made black holes
out of the hollowness i felt
when i lost you

maybe i wasn’t enough,
and maybe we weren’t fated
like all the stars

but

i would have caught comets
with my bare fingertips
just to see you again

i would have chased gods
with my mortal limits
just to touch you again

but maybe it’s best
that you chose someone else
to face down every storm in life
