“I can’t remember a time I haven’t felt lonely,” she whispered. “Strange, isn’t it? Loneliness is something you only feel the gravity of experiencing once you start to feel it go away.”

“You don’t feel lonely now, do you?” he asked. She thought it cute how he sounded concerned.

She shook her head. “No, I don’t feel lonely.” Far from it.

He gave her a smile that seemed a little relieved. “Maybe I should have asked if you were bored.”

“Worried now, are you?”

“A little.”

“I’m not bored either.”

“Well, that’s a relief. I might have needed to take drastic measures otherwise.”

“Such as?”

“That would spoil the surprise, wouldn’t it?”

Dynamic Drabbles is a little series of stories and snippets I’ve written over the years, mined from stray word documents and scraps I’ve collected. They’re just silly little whimsies, each one special in their own way.

But I think sometimes we forget that stories are not real life. I know I do. As much as I love spinning a good tale, I can’t advise for delving too deeply into the pools of them. How did Dumbledore put it in Harry Potter? That he wouldn’t say
