Lost in the Wilds With You
Prose Poetry
The scent of wild grass welcomes us in this forest we find ourselves in. It’s a world far from the manufactured jungle we called our home, but we navigate this plain as if there’s more to embrace in a strange place than there is to fear.
Your hand trembles in mine, and I know you’re more scared than you thought you’d be.
Did you think I’d leave you behind to wander all on your own?
Don’t be silly. We’re on this path together till the end.
I’ll lead you when your steps falter.
I’ll stop when your feet ache.
I’ll rest with you when your eyes tire.
I’ll sing you to sleep even as nightmares threaten to circle behind your closed lids.
What do we have to fear when we’re together?
You’ll follow me no matter where the trail leads.
You’ll smile at me when the sun sets.
You’ll snuggle up beside me when the cold night air descends.
You’ll wake beside me when the sun rises again.
Again, again, again.
We have to hope we’ll have all the tomorrow’s.
