Penelope always texts me when she’s drunk.

I don’t even try to get her to stop anymore. I just let the barrage of texts come when they do.

Tonight there have been a string of hat emojis — what the hell? — followed by a blurry shot of her calico cat dashing out of view.

Then she sends me a shot of her cleavage, accentuated by a lacy black bra. My eyes widen.

That’s new in her drunk texting escapades.

But the mood deadens with her next text: lmao.

I delete all the texts she has sent and shut my phone off.
