Life After You
A Poem
never thought you’d be the one
who would make me want to run —
run as far away as I could get —
yet here we are, unhappy ending intact
never thought you’d be the one
to make me scream and rage
enough to shatter bottles,
all this anger ready to erupt
never thought you’d be the one
to make me weep so hard
that my eyes swelled for days
with no relief in sight
never thought you’d be the one
to make me think I was crazy,
losing it far too early in my life,
as if I were a record stuck on repeat
yet here we are —
it’s an echo chamber,
here we are, here we are —
and I have no idea where to go next
never thought I’d be the one
to end it first — no strings —
because I couldn’t take it anymore,
all these useless emotions building up
