you thought you knew the truth of me —
even as i courted your darkness
all those years, all those years, all those years

you thought you knew the truth of me —
even as you slept with muses
and made your bed in flowered abysses

you thought you knew the truth of me —
even as i stand here, knowing it’s true,
that you never had me at all

once upon a time is a long time,
and i catered to your every whim
even as i knew pieces of me

were breaking inside

you thought you knew the truth of me —
even though you went down labyrinths
where monsters quaked and snarled and yielded

you thought you knew the truth of me —
even though i’m colored blue in so many shades,
all from you, you, you, you, you, you

you thought you knew the truth of me —
and so i went on my way,
catering to sycophants all the while
