Late Nights and Love Potions
Witches provide the best reality checks.
“You called me out here for a love potion?” Alanna asked. “Are you for real right now?”
For his part, Derek did look embarrassed — particularly because Alanna was dressed to the nines and carried with her a bottle of wine as if she thought it was going to be a typical Saturday night fling between the two of them. To say he had let the friends-with-benefits angle go on for too long was an understatement. “Sorry,” he managed to say. “I should have told you over the phone.”
Alanna sighed before passing him into the apartment he shared with a roommate who was, thankfully, absent for the exchange. “Please tell me this isn’t about that girl you were telling me about.”
When Derek didn’t reply right away, Alanna made a sound of frustration. “The gall! The absolute gall of you! I can’t believe this.”
“Look, Allie, you’re a great girl — ”
“I’m not in love with you!” she exclaimed, and she sounded even angrier than only a moment before. “I just can’t believe you’re the type who wants to use a love potion to get the girl. Don’t you have enough confidence in your own abilities?”
“Um, well, about that…”
“What is it?”
