Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

A Poem

Photo by Rafaela Lima from Pexels

you’ve got that star-shine look,

perfect for another cup of coffee

or maybe a walk down the aisle,

but life is so thin, we fall so short —

keep your eyes on the prize, my love.

you say time is unspooling, frayed,

and you worry you’re missing out,

the ties cut before they’re knotted,

and I want to ease all your worries —

keep your eyes on the prize, my love.

then you go away to new lights,

all the way to greater heights above,

and your dreams spark afire,

farther and farther and farther —

keep your eyes on the prize, my love.

never say you’re going nowhere

because I see you moving so far,

a shooting star bounding true

and transcending this sphere —

you’ve got your eyes on the prize.
