Just Like in the Movies
A Poem
do you ever think of us
as if we’re playing in reel time,
moments compounding into frames
captured from our fleeting eyes?
babe, you’re that scene
that I’ll never forget,
no matter how long I live,
because you’re my taste of forever.
and we could be that couple
just like in the movies —
the happy one, the obsessed one,
the one that never ever lets go.
but tomorrow you might say
it’s not worth it anymore
as you take my heart with you
when you depart into the shadows.
isn’t that always be the way?
we think we have a fairy tale,
and then it all turns into
a recurring nightmare.
would that make you
the villain in my story?
in the third act,
will I vanquish you?
maybe someday I’ll be
able to pull out
the sword from the stone
and drive it into your heart.
