100 Faces in 100 Stories — No39

We were in the game of creating monsters — all make and size, from terrifying to intimidating — but somewhere along the way we lost our vision.

It was time to try something new.

But monster? It’s a damning word. We didn’t want these girls we were making to feel that they were oddities or mistakes. If all went well, they would feel special.

The first girl had seaweed for hair and jellyfish as tangled accessories. Her face was solemn and withdrawn — almost like an angel statue in a cemetery.

I would teach her, like all the rest, how to be loved.
