I've never liked the idea of promise rings, but I know people still use them (my cousin received one a few years into her relationship, and it took about four years before she had a proper engagement ring). I've mainly seen people who adhere to religious beliefs/practices use them. I mean, it's a nice idea, but the intentions behind them may not always be so transparent... Great article, though!
